The Calgary Flames won their first playoff series in 15 years with a 3-2 win over Vancouver as Martin Gelinas scored a power-play goal in overtime in Game Seven of the first-round series.

With eight seconds left on a high-sticking penalty to Canucks defenceman Ed Jovanovski, Gelinas got a rebound at the bottom of the right faceoff circle and flicked it between the stacked pads of rookie goaltender Alex Auld.

It was the second goal of the series for Gelinas, whose overtime tally against Toronto sent the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2002.

Calgary had not gotten past the first round since 1989, when it defeated Vancouver on Joel Otto's power-play goal in Game Seven of the Smythe Division semi-finals.

The Flames went on to capture the Stanley Cup, only to lose their next six National Hockey League playoff series.

Calgary was closing in on a 2-1 win when Matt Cooke chipped a rebound of Markus Naslund's backhander over goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff with 5.7 seconds left in regulation.
