Team Canada continued to bolster its roster for the 2004 IIHF men's world championship on Wednesday, adding right wing Glen Murray and centers Patrice Bergeron and Brendan Morrison.
Murray, who also represented Canada at the 1998 world championship, led the Boston Bruins with 32 goals during the regular season. He recorded two goals and an assist in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against Montreal.
Bergeron completed his rookie season with 16 goals and 23 assists for the Bruins. The 18-year-old, who had a goal and three assists in the playofs, becomes the second-youngest player to make Canada's world championship roster.
Morrison will be making his second appearance for Canada in the tournament,
having played in 2000. He finished the regular season with 22 goals and 38 assists
and added two goals and three assists against Calgary in the Western Conference
quarterfinals.
The trio follow Dallas Stars left wing Brenden Morrow and New Jersey left wing Jeff Friesen and defenseman Scott Niedermayer, who were added to Canada's roster on Tuesday.
Team Canada also announced Columbus Blue Jackets left wing Rick Nash will not participate in the world championship due to injury. The 19-year-old scored 41 goals in the regular season, good for a share of the NHL lead.
The world championship
begins Saturday in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic.
