Deportivo Coruna will appeal against the red card shown to defender Jorge Andrade in Wednesday's goalless Champions League semi-final clash with Porto in a bid to have him available for the second leg.

Andrade was sent off for aiming a kick at Porto midfielder Deco Souza three minutes from time but the incident was just a misunderstanding, says Deportivo coach Javier Irureta.

"Jorge is good friends with Deco and it was a friendly gesture," said Irureta. "There was nothing spiteful about it and I think the referee just didn't understand.

"It makes no sense. You can't stop someone playing in the next game just for that."

A sending-off in a European club game usually means an automatic suspension for the next match.

If Andrade is banned it could prove costly for Depor, who will also be without Mauro Silva after he picked up a second yellow card.

Porto coach Jose Mourinho said he had not seen the incident but argued that Deportivo should have been reduced to 10 men much earlier for what he saw as a second bad foul from Silva.

"I was on the other side of the pitch so I can't say," Mourinho said regarding the sending off.

"If it was unjust, then it was even more unjust that Mauro Silva wasn't red-carded at the start of the second half.

"When Andrade went there was no time for any football but we should have had 40 minutes to play against 10 men."
